Types of Certificates

GWE Business West can help with necessary documentation required by many countries to satisfy customs and overseas banks.

Your buyer may request a range of documents - some of which may require certification by our team at GWE Business West (the trading name of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce and Initiatve) and possibly legalisation by the relevant Embassy.

European Community Certificates of Origin

A European Community Certificate of Origin may be called for by any country worldwide and is used for Customs Clearance at destination to evidence the origin of the goods.

Arab Certificates of Origin

These Certificates of Origin are specifically for Arab State countries.

The following countries are, for the purpose of documentation Arab States:

Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq, Jibouti, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somali Democratic Republic, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen Arab Republic.

Many Arab States accept EC Certificates of Origin so you should check with your overseas customer which type of Certificate of Origin they require before applying.

As many Arab Certificates require legalisation at the appropriate embassy you should be aware that there may be considerable costs involved and also a time delay in receiving the documents back. You can check the cost in advance of your application by contacting us and we will also be able to give you an indication of the time it will take.

EUR1s

These are Preferential Customs documents required as a result of a trade agreement between the EU and in excess of 100 overseas countries. By producing an EUR1 your customer will be able to clear the goods into their country at greatly reduced duty rates and in many cases entirely free of duty.

To be able to produce an EUR1 the goods must be manufactured in the EU and satisfy origin rules laid down in specific Customs Notices 827, 828 and 829.

ATRs

These are similar to EUR1 certificates but are specifically for Turkey. By producing an ATR your customer in Turkey will receive preferential import duty rates, often duty free.

Goods can originate anywhere in the world but must be fully imported into the EU with full import duty having been paid and therefore are in Free Circulation.

The information in these documents are also laid down by Customs Notice 812
