The Initiative in Bath & North
East Somerset
The Initiative in B&NES
concentrates on strategic issues, in particular building up close
working relationships with key local authority representatives and
their officers.
As part of the wider Initiative,
which covers the whole of the West of England and beyond into
Gloucestershire and Swindon, we have valuable links with National
Government, MP’s, the South West Regional Development Agency, the
Government Office for the South West, the West of England
Partnership, the Learning and Skills Council, Avon and Somerset
Constabulary and the Health Authorities.
The Initiative in
B&NES was instrumental in forming the public / private
partnership with the Bath and North East Somerset Council to create
Future Bath Plus, a company which oversees the coherent
development of the three important strands of Tourism, Culture and
City Centre Management.
Among the first concrete actions was to begin
the process which could lead to the centre of Bath becoming a
Business Improvement District.
The Initiative concentrates on six
major policy areas as they impact on B&NES:
Economic Development –
working to ensure this area remains an attractive and prosperous
place to work, live and do business
Tourism
– making a positive contribution to the way tourism plays its part
in the local economy.
Transport – addressing the
problems posed by traffic congestion and access into Bath.
Housing – lobbying for the
right number, style and location of homes.
Education and Skills –
investigating ways in which people can improve the level of their
qualifications and skills whilst working to retain more graduates
to live and work in the district.
Quality of Life – ensuring
that the wonderful environment and rich cultural heritage is
protected and improved by the addition of the highest quality of
contemporary design.
