The Initiative in Swindon
The Initiative in Swindon has been established and new resources
are now in place to develop our activity in the area, working in
partnership with others, to play a key role as a catalyst for long
term change and progress.
The new Swindon
Initiative seeks to build on and support the SSEP (Swindon
Strategic Economic Partnership) and has held discussions with
Swindon Borough Council leadership and a number of key players in
the town to identify issues and ideas. The following have been
identified to date as the key issues of concern to the business
community in Swindon:
- Unemployment levels
rising
- Skills agenda and low
educational achievement
- Areas of deprivation and
regeneration agenda
- Transport and
access
- Affordable housing
It is clear from these
initial discussions that the issues of concern in Swindon do relate
well to the issues and themes identified in the West of England and
that many of the strategic priorities already identified are also
applicable to Swindon. It is proposed to further develop these
thoughts through further discussion and testing with the business
community and local authority partners.
In the coming months we
will be developing a programme of activities and events for
business members in Swindon, in collaboration with the Swindon
Strategic Economic Partnership and Swindon Borough Council.
